How DZ Bank is building a Digital Enablement Program to successfully implement real Digital Projects
/ How Germany’s 2nd Largest Bank is building a Digital Enablement Program to successfully implement real Digital Projects
On November 2, it was decision day at Germany’s second largest bank. The two project teams of the Bank’s Trainee Program 4.0 presented their results to the jury of board members and senior executives of the bank. From challenge to prototype in six months was the goal and both teams delivered on the promise:
- Pay-per-use financing: “Use it instead of own it!”. This digital project offers corporate customers variable repayment rates based on the utilization of an IoT-enabled asset or machine. The team worked on a specific use case and piloted the blockchain-based processing of a pay-per-use financing solution.
- CreditLink (CL) token: Based on the vision “We tokenize credit linked notes based on the Coin learning platform and build use-case-centric knowledge”, the interdisciplinary team from IT and capital markets was able to demonstrate the potential of tokenization and how it was implemented in the frontend and backend using the example of VR Circle.
“The bank and the entire group benefit from the added value of the two very successful digital projects and the great achievements of the young talents”, summed up the bank’s Labor Director and one of the Executive Board sponsors.
Many thanks to the bank and especially to their Group Human Resources Development Program, for the trust and the great cooperation. Three years ago, in 2019, the program was redeveloped together with bluegain academy with a clear strategic goal: Entrepreneurs within the company (“Corporate Entrepreneurs”) drive real digital projects towards business impact and are empowered through a specifically developed training curriculum.
To this end, we offer three enablement modules: A Kickoff-Workshop, where teams develop their project goals (‘North Star’) and roadmap. In the two Fast Forward Workshops, the focus is on further developing the content of the digital projects and hardening-out the results through a critical view from the outside. In preparation for the final event, the focus is then on professionalizing the strategic narrative and pitches at the final presentation and on preparing the continuation in the lines of business.
For digital enablement programs, the following factors have proven critical to success:
- High commitment from the board
- Clear north star for the digital projects
- Focus on concrete use cases & business proximity
- Agile way of working, iterative hardening of results
- An interdisciplinary team of coaches – digital expertise, HR development
- Cross-divisional collaboration & integration of internal subject matter experts
In 2023, we will enter the third round, which we as bluegain academy are happy to accompany again. We are looking forward to new exciting digital projects and to the development of young, committed talents.
