/ From Work-From-Home To Multilocal Workplaces

/ While remote work boosts satisfaction and reduces burnout, many employees feel isolated, and most would consider reduced pay or even quitting if flexible work isn’t an option, though they often lack the necessary tech support.

Working remotely has been an increasing trend in our work environment due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Technical University of Darmstadt has now published a comprehensive study concerning how the emergency solution in the pandemic has changed to the possibility for multilocal workplaces. We summarized the most important findings for you to consider in your change management.

/ SATISFACTION IN OR OUT OF THE OFFICE?
  • Generally, more people want to spend less time in the office than they do right now. The greatest discrepancy between the actual and desired situation is found among Generation Z.
  • Satisfaction is higher when working at home opposite to working in an office.
  • It also reports the phenomenon that work-from-home satisfaction decreases as proximity to a city increases.

/ IS WORKING FROM HOME REALLY THAT ADMIRABLE?
  • One in four feels isolated in the home office.
  • Over half of employees cite easier interaction with colleagues as a reason to come back to the office.
  • Concerning burnout, the study found that the more hours worked in the home office, the lower the incidence of burnout is.

/ INCENTIVES TO COME BACK INTO THE OFFICE OR QUIT?
  • On average, respondents are willing to give up 2.5% of their salary in order to be allowed to work flexibly.
  • However, around 70% of respondents also stated that they were not prepared to accept a loss of salary. Important to note, is the lack of full information and communication technology equipment that one in four participants mentions.
  • One in four is willing to quit if no mobile work option is offered.
